Looking Back at ‘Music to Be Murdered By’

After a long time, I went back to listening to Eminem. The album’s name was ‘Music to Be Murdered By.’ Well, I felt for a second like I was back in the 2000s era. Eminem’s songs still sound the same, and the flow and everything were nostalgic.

Since the coronavirus, time has really moved fast, and I was out of the loop that Eminem had released the album in 2020. The songs were completely new to me. The song ‘Darkness’ is one of my favorites from ‘Music to Be Murdered By.’ Its dark and introspective lyrics, coupled with Eminem’s masterful storytelling, create a captivating listening experience that resonates deeply.

There is a novelty when listening to this album for the first time; most songs have a touch of modernity.

The same monotonous sound?

It is true that many people could feel the same monotonous sound. However, there is beauty in this monotony. At one point, you might be tired of life, feeling like you’re getting nowhere, and having thoughts that everything sounds mundane. On the other hand, if you are new to Eminem, you might love the new style.

The Modern Sound

Well, in my personal opinion, Eminem sounds more polished after 20 years. ‘Music to Be Murdered By’ surely is one of Eminem’s best albums.

Peak nostalgia again. Listening to Eminem back in the day, with him sitting beside the house in the old poster, the memories still feel fresh. My favorite song from Eminem was ‘The Way I Am,’ and something happened in life where all those memories somehow were lost. This album, ‘Music to Be Murdered By,’ revives those old memories.

The Angst of Eminem in Older Songs

If we listen to Eminem’s old songs, for example, ‘The Way I Am,’ one can find extreme anger and angst in the song. However, with the release of new albums, the angst slowly faded away.

Now, jumping to the song ‘Darkness,’ it sounds cooler and more chill. However, if I am listening to Eminem in 2024, then I would choose this song.

The Final Point

The album is enjoyable; however, there are filler songs. The songs are also good because Eminem doesn’t have to prove that he can rap; he is doing everything solely for art in this album. “Leaving Heaven” has an 8 Mile vibe, while “Book Of Rhymes” is my favorite. “Darkness” is obviously the most liked song with a sad vibe. Also, the album’s references to historical figures prompt listeners to think and do research, adding value to the experience. There is definitely a new generation touch within the music.
